
Stanislaw ADAMCZYK
Polish 2nd Corps
Stanisław Adamczyk was born in 1920. He lived in Gajówka, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship – it was a village near Wolbrom).
During WW2, the Germans were looking for him so he hid in the forest and would come home for the night. Then he went with his friend Wojtek to the west.
He left his home with a friend, and they made their way to the border where they evacuated to Hungary. They were interned in a transit camp, escaped, and made their way to the Middle East where they joined the Polish 2nd Corps.
After training in Iraq, Palestine, and Egypt, he sailed to Italy with the Corps and participated in the Italian Campaign.
He served as a Rifleman in the 2nd Carpathian Rifle Battalion of the 1st Carpathian Rifle Brigade ( 3 DSK). And was awarded the Cross of Valour.
He fought at Monte Cassino and died on 31 May 1945. According to the death certificate, he died in the Viadagola Granavolo region of Italy.
