
Tadeusz LECZYNSKI
German POW

Tadeusz Leczynski was born on 31 October 1920 in Krakow, Poland. After completing his secondary education, he entered the Military Academy in Grudziadz graduating just before the German's invasion of Poland in September 1939.
Tadeusz fought in the September Campaign in Poland; taken as POW he spent the next five years in German POW camps. After liberation, he joined the Polish Resettlement Corps in England, where he graduated in Mechanical Engineering from London Polytechnic.
In 1946 Tadeusz married Alexandra Szwed. In 1957, they and their three children emigrated to Canada settling in Winnipeg. Tadeusz was employed by Manitoba Hydro retiring in 1985.
Tadeusz was very active in the Polish community as President of the Polish-Canadian Congress, Vice President of the Polish Combatant Association Branch 13, Chief Editor of the Polish newspaper Czas, director of the Polish radio program on CKYJ, the TV program Polonika, and one of the founders of the Turek charitable organization.
Tadeusz passed away in Winnipeg on 17 December 2008, at the age of 88 years.
