

Filip ROMANCHYSHYN
Filip Romanchyshyn was born in the village of Muzylowcze, Eastern Poland (now Ukraine) on 4 April 1918.
Upon completing internship training as a tailor in his early 1920s, he became absorbed into the evolving political conditions preceding the Second World War that resulted in his imprisonment in a Soviet lbour camp for two years.
Released by the ‘amnesty’, he volunteered to join the Polish 2nd Corps, where he participated in the battles of the Italian Campaign, including the final Battle for Monte Cassino.
Following the war, Filip resided briefly in London, England before emigrating to Kelliher, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1949. Within two years, he relocated to Winnipeg where he entered the garment industry.
After marrying Theresia in July 1954, Filip maintained his involvement in the sewing field, while later working as a custodian at the University of Manitoba until his retirement in 1986.
Filip Romanchyshyn passed away in Winnipeg on 20 April 2013, at the age of 95 years.
