Franciszek LACHOWICZ
Franciszek was born to Anna and Stanislaw Lachowicz on 18 September 1925 in Sinkow, Zaleszczyki, Poland.
Franciszek served in the Second World War as a Lance Corporal medic with the 1st Polish Armoured Division. It is not known how he got from Poland to Scotland to join the division, but once he arrived there, he was trained as a medic.
In August 1944, the division crossed over to Normandy, and Franciszek served in the European Campaign with the division – from France, to Belgium, to Holland, to Germany. He was awarded the 1939-1945 War medal, the Defence medal, and the France/Germany Star.
After the war Franciszek emigrated to Winnipeg and met his soul mate, Lillian. Together they started their journey in life and raised their children. Franciszek worked for the Winnipeg School Division #1 as a custodian until his retirement.
Franciszek passed away in Winnipeg on 22 March 2007, and was buried at the Holy Ghost Cemetery.
