
Jozef KITCHER
Jozef Kitcher was born in Sanok, Poland in 1915.
When WW2 broke out, Jozef was mobilized into the Polish army. When Poland fell, he evacuated to Romania and then made his way to France, where he rejoined the Polish army.
When France fell, he evacuated and eventually made his way to the Middle East to join the Polish 2nd Corps. He trained in the Middle East and fought at the Battle of Tobruk, and in the Italian Campaign, including the Battles of Monte Cassino, Ancona, and Loretto.
After the war, he spent two years in England and when demobilized chose to come to Winnipeg. He was employed by the Manitoba Telephone System for 35 years and retired in 1979.
He married Grace in Winnipeg in 1952 and raised a family.
Jozef passed away in Winnipeg on 4 November 2002, at the age of 86, and was buried at the Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
