Bronislaw DOMBEK

Bronisław Dombek was born on 22 February 1920, in Dubelno, Poland. Bronisław changed its name to Dombeek after he settled in the Netherlands.

 

When war broke out in Poland, he was mobilized and fought in the September Campaign. He then evacuated to Roumania and made his way to France, where he joined the Polish Army that was formed there. When France fell, he was evacuated to the UK and ended up in Scotland where he joined the 1st Polish Armoured Division. In 1944, he crossed over to Europe with the Division.

 

He served in the 9th Battalion of the 1st Polish Armoured Division and fought in all the battles of the European Campaign with the Division. On 28 October 1944, the battalion was heading from Gilze Bavel and received the order for a night attack in Ginneken.

 

Bronisław was one of the liberators of Breda. After the war, he returned to Breda and married Karolina. He worked as a mechanic in Breda and moved to Renkum at a later age.

 

Bronisław passed away on 2 May 2008, in Renkum, Netherlands, at the age of 88 years.
