
Bronislaw STARCZEWSKI

Bronislaw was born to Zofia and Michal Starczewski in Anielin, Poland on 10 May 1916.
He fought in the September Campaign in Poland, was subsequently captured by the Russians and deported to Siberia. He spent nearly 2 years in a slave labour camp. On release, he journeyed south to join the Polish army being formed there and evacuated to Persia (now Iran) with the army.
Bronislaw enlisted in the Polish 2nd Corps, served in the Middle East and in the Italian Campaign, where he fought in the battles of Ancona and Monte Casino for which he was decorated.
After the war, Bronislaw emigrated to Canada in 1946, on a 2-year work contract. He worked on a farm and then for Canadian National Railway. In 1950 he married Franciszka Kasowska. They bought property on Oliver Road in Thunder Bay and together built a dairy farm where they worked for 38 years.
After retirement he spent time in his vegetable garden and enjoyed keeping his yard meticulously green. Bronislaw was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Polish Combatants’ Branch # 219, the Polish Combatants' Association Branch #1, and a member of St. Mary’s, Our Lady Queen of Poland Church.
Bronislaw Starczewski, passed away on 28December 2004., at the age 88 years. He was buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Thunder Bay.
