Adam KREUTZER

Polish 1st Armoured Division

Born in Poland in 1924. When the 2nd World War broke out, he escaped Poland through Romania, and reached the Polish Army in France. He was later sent to England where, because of his young age, he was sent to cadet school in Scotland.

 

On graduating, he joined the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Polish Armoured Division.

Adam participated in all the 1st Armoured Division battles in northern Europe – from Normandy to Germany - including the battles of Falaise and the liberation of Breda.

 

Adam was awarded a number of Polish, French, and British medals, including the France & Germany Star, and the 1939-1945 War medal.

From 1945 to 1947, Adam was part of the occupation forces in Germany along with the Polish 1st Armoured Division.

Returning to England in 1947, he spent some time in there, where he married and started a family. He then decided to emigrate to Canada, where he settled in Toronto.

Adam was very involved in:

  • the 1st Polish Armoured Association (where he served as President for many years)

  • the Polish Veterans’ Association Branch 20 (where he served on the Board for many years)

  • Branch 620 of the CanaLegion

  • he also served as the President of the Veterans Committee of the Canadian Polish Congress.

Adam Kreutzer passed away in Toronto on 28 September 2011 in his 87th year.
