Franciszek SKIBINSKI

1st Polish Armoured Division

During WWII he served in the following positions:

- Chief of Staff of the 10th Cavalry Brigade,

- Chief of Staff of the 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade in France 1940,

- Chief of Staff of the 2nd Rifle Brigade

 

In the 1st Polish Armoured Division He served as:

- Commander of the 10th Mounted Rifles Regiment,

- Deputy Commander of the 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade in the 1st PAD,

- Commander of the 10th Mounted Rifles Regiment,

- Commander of the 3rd Rifle Brigade,

- Commander of the 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade.

In his book "Lancer’s Youth 1917-1939" published in 1989, the then 90-year-old General wrote the following about himself:

"I have indeed lived an excessively long life, and in an excessively varied way, if only by participating in six war campaigns, not to mention all the twists and turns of history I have lived through, one of which bestowed upon me an undeserved death sentence, and ultimately five years in prison."

He died on May 16, 1991. Every year the Association of the Families of the 1st Polish Armoured Division lit the Candle of Remembrance and laid white-red roses on the General's grave.
