Stanislaw KASZUBA
Stanislaw Kaszuba was born in Wolczek, Poland on February 6, 1928. He viewed life as an adventure and became stronger as he overcame each of his challenges.
In the early morning hours of February 10, 1940, there was a knock at the door. The whole family was forcibly taken to a labour camp in Siberia. Stanislaw was an extraordinary storyteller who would captivate us all with stories. We learned that: He cuttrees in the forest in Siberia, picked cotton in Uzbekistan, caught sturgeon in the Caspian Sea, travelled through the land of the Shah of Persia, chased peacocks in Pakistan, trod the steps of Queen Victoria through the gate to India, fed elephants in India, travelled to England, cand came to Canada. Here he met the woman of his dreams and started a family. He built a home. He studied a new profession. Then settled in Thunder Bay
Stanislaw immigrated to Winnipeg in 1948 where he met the love of his life, Mary. They were blessed with four children. Because of his job with Canadian National Telecommunications the family moved to Thunder Bay in 1968.
Stanislaw always put others before himself. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he held all of them close to his heart. Stanislaw’s love of family, faith and sense of duty sustained him through his life. He was a long-time member of St. Casimir's Church. He was also an active member of the Polish Combatants Branch #1 and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 219 where he served on many committees, and with the colour party. He was recognized for his contributions with medals and awards.
Stanislaw passed away on July 9, 2013 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
