Stanislaw Edmond Tebinka was born to Arthur and Jadiwiga  in Dobromila, Poland on February 8, 1922 and later moved to Stubno, Poland where he was raised and educated. With the breakout of the war, the 18-year-old Stanislaw was deported with his family to Siberia. On release, he enlisted with the Polish Army becoming a Sergeant in the Polish 2nd Corps and serving in Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, and Italy (including Monte Casino).

 

In 1946 he emigrated to Canada. He settled in London, Ontario, then Stratford, Ontario and eventually to Port Arthur where he got a job in the bush camp. He later worked for the railroad, and in plumbing before opening his own business called Stan's Cleaning Service where he did janitorial work with the assistance of his wife and sons.

 

When Stanislaw retired at age 65 the business was sold, and he became more active within Polonia organizations and the church. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Polish Legion Branch #149, the Polish Combatants Branch #219, where he served as President, the Canadian Polish Congress where he served as President and on the Executive, with the Polish Cultural and Educational Committee where he served as Chair and on the Executive, on the Board of Directors of the Multicultural Association and Folklore Festival, was a former member of the Polish Mutual Benefit and Loyal Order of the Moose, and a Polish Alliance Grip Member. He was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady Queen of Poland Roman Catholic Church.

 

Stanislaw received many medals, certificates, ribbons, plaques and pins for his many contributions including the Order of St. Stanislas and the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

 

Stanislaw Edmond Tebinka passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital-Port Arthur General on Friday, 11 April 2003 and was buried in St. Andrew's Cemetery.
