Barbara WISZOWATY-BROZYNA
Home Army (AK)
Barbara was born in Bronisze, Poland, the youngest of 13 children. She was on her way to the University in Warsaw on 1 September 1939, but instead she spent the war years actively working in the Polish Home Army (AK), including participating in the Warsaw Uprising.
She married her childhood friend Wenanty Wiszowaty, who was also active in the Polish Home Army. At the end of the war, they escaped to the British Sector of Germany in 1945.
Wenanty emigrated to Canada in 1947, and Barbara followed in 1948 with their son Leszek. Barbara settled into Winnipeg and raised two children, Leszek and Elizabeth.
She taught Polish language and dance classes, was involved with Scouting , as well as many of the Polish community organizations.
She supported Wenanty’s entrepreneurial spirit in the purchase of a General Store at Deerhorn, MB. Many busy and happy years were spent there, and she then ran the store herself for several years after the death of her husband. In
1974, Barbara sold the store and moved back to Winnipeg where she worked at Red River Community College as a cashier in The Green and Gold for 10 wonderful years.
She shared her life with Tadeusz Brozyna from 1982 until 1992 and had many happy times.
Barbara passed away in Winnipeg on 8 April 2007, at the age of 88 years. She was buried at the Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
